Melocactus matanzanus or “Turk’s Cap”

Melocacti have two phases of growth. The green body only grows during the adolescent phase, then at maturity, will develop a red cephalium, or cap, which will grow taller and taller as the plant ages. Flowers appear abundantly from the tip of the cephalium.

This plant likes a little bit more humidity than other cacti and as a tropical cactus, and must be kept above 60F at all times.
